Though summer doesn’t officially start for a few more weeks, rising temperatures have many of us thinking beach time, bathing suits, and margaritas. Whether on the rocks or frozen, salted or straight up, a frothy glass of margarita goodness is just around the corner (if not already in hand). That said, we must ask the very important question: is our friend tequila – Senorita Margarita’s main squeeze – vegan? Well, silly vegans, so long as you avoid the dreaded (and generally mythological) worm, since tequila is made from the blue agave plant, it would seem that we’re (quite literally) in the clear consuming this tangy liquor at get-togethers all summer long.
Now that we have that pressing and ever-so-life-altering question off of your mind, the next step to ensuring you’re drinking to your continual optimum health (and minimal impact on Earth), then, is to purchase organic tequila to fuel all of your margarita concoctions. Agave, (like most any other plant) if not certified organic, may be farmed using conventional methods, which means a greater carbon impact and a possible chemical infiltration on your otherwise enjoyable drink choices – no pesticides in my margarita, please. To get you started, try out some of these organic tequila brands:
All of these brands practice sustainable farming and are better for you. Once you have your new organic tequila in hand, try out one of Ayinde’s Ultimate Summer Cocktails. Muy delicioso!
We’d love to know your favorite tequila-based drink recipes – let us know in the comments! Gracias!
