Every now and then, we all need something a little bit fruity, especially when we’re talking cold desserts in the scorching summer weather. While most fruit-based desserts like sorbet on the market today would seem that they’d be vegan, some in fact aren’t – especially those of the “creamy” variation.
Sherbets are almost always guaranteed to include cream, so most of the varieties found in your grocer’s aisle are likely to have some animal products included, and they’re also all too often weighed down with unnecessary ingredients and added sugars. So, since I’m in the mood to save the ice-cream-eating world today, here’s a few quick suggestions:
Sambazon, a supplement and acai drink company, offers up Sambazon Organic Acai Berry Sorbet. Full of acai antioxidant power and completely dairy-free, this stuff contains minimal added stuff and maximum awesome flavor. The dark purple sorbet tastes like cool acai berries and leaves an aftertaste reminiscent of dark chocolate – all good things in my book. I can’t think of a more refreshing dessert at the end of a hot day.
Vermont-based Blue Moon Sorbet (available in many Whole Foods Markets) offers up fun flavor combinations like Blackberry Lime, Pear Ginger, and Strawberry Daiquiri — sounds too good to be true, right? It’s not!
Ciao Bella’s line of sorbets is pretty delicious and the most widely-available of these three brands — try the Blood Orange flavor sometime for a flavor you won’t soon forget. Intense yet refreshing, this stuff rocks the sorbet world.

I’m not a big sorbet girl–I need creamy texture! But I will say that Trader Joe’s has a really unique Blackberry Merlot sorbet flavor. Mmmnnn…
