iEG: What prompted you to make Vegan Cuts — in other words, what was your “AHA” moment to create the Vegan Cuts web site?
Jill: Vegan Cuts has changed a lot since we launched in early 2011 as a weekly deal website. The “AHA” moment didn’t come until we were a few months in. We realized we could do so much more than offer people great prices. We shifted our focus towards curating exceptional products and expanded to create our marketplace, where we offer some of the best vegan food, fashion and body care products available.
What is your ultimate goal as you grow the Vegan Cuts site?
We’re on a mission to educate people about what it means to shop vegan outside of the grocery store, introduce them to exceptional vegan products, and support the growth of vegan businesses and organizations.
Where do you see the future of vegan business opportunities? Is the market growing exponentially or is it slowly building, in your opinion?
Sometimes people ask me if I feel like we’re running out of companies to feature on Vegan Cuts, and I have a little giggle. My impression is that there are a ton of vegan companies, and more are popping up every month. There seems to be a new wave of vegan entrepreneurs starting up, launching online bakeries, designing t-shirts, making small batches of natural skincare products, creating their own vegan fashion lines, and more. It’s such an exciting time to be a vegan business owner, there is more demand for vegan products than ever before.
What has been your most popular deal on Vegan Cuts so far?
Some of our most popular deals have been really unique food finds, like Parmela’s vegan parmesan, SoyGo instant creamer, Nacheez’sObsessive Confection Disorder and Seattle Sweets & Co. Of course, anything made of chocolate is often a big hit too, like Nicobella truffles or Lulu’s Chocolate.
For you — what is the most important reason you are vegan?
I’m vegan because I think it’s the best possible lifestyle for people who care about animals, their health, and the environment. But that’s not the only reason to go vegan, being part of such a loving, welcoming community of open-minded people is pretty sweet, and the food is SO tasty!
Okay guys, you have our full permission to use your IEATGRASS coupon code as an excuse to go shopping…
