I met Miss Smith via her brother, the notorious NYC party promoter Mr. Forrest Renaissance, who I worked with back in my promoter days in the mid 2000’s in Manhattan. They are two of three musically talented siblings and, like most families, they are all alike in slightly different ways. Mel is my fav Smith admittedly -she is an accomplished song writer. I mean, a for real artist like Alicia keys.
I would always see her out at various parties and we would scream pleasantries over loud music., flirt etc. I went to Mel’s recent indie release party for My Heart in Focus, more of the same sound. It has been a pleasure watching her grow into an artist, and she said she made the album because “people were frontin’ on these songs! and they are good!” I agree. Heart is an eclectic, lo-fi, well written and produced piece of art. With that said, listen for yourself. Oh, and Facebook her.
