Music to Make You Cooler: Santigold

One thing I appreciate about an artist is versatility. Recently I’ve been enjoying Santi White, aka Santigold, the former singer from the Philly punk band Stiffed. I find her stuff to be really multifaceted–I can listen to it when I’m cruising around in my car AND when I’m trying to pump myself up. I never really get bored with it. Santigold’s second album, Master of My Make Believe, has been powering my runs lately. Full of tinny techno beats and powerful African rhythms, the album reminds me of a lineup of futuristic tribal club jams…if that makes sense. The tracks total under 40 minutes—an easy listen—and feature artists like Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

While I dig her second album, I still play favorites with the effervescent “I’m a Lady” and rhythmic mash-up “Shove it” off her 2008 debut album, Santogold. When listened back-to-back I think they show Santigold’s ability to span a range of acoustic styles. Nothing is worse than an album full of tracks that sound so similar they run into one another. Even if the sound is good, who wants to listen to 45 minutes of The Same Thing? Not I.

So what have you been listening to lately? Like Santigold? Listen to her stuff!

  1. It’s very trouble-free to find out any matter on net as compared to textbooks, as I found this article at this web page.
