2013: The Year of the Vegans?

By Callie McBride

Hooray-we survived 2012! Word on the street is that we are about to see the “year of the vegans”…could it be? Will 2013 be the year that veganism finally fades from being characterized as a temporary health fix or a trendy diet, and turns into a more appreciated and widely practiced lifestyle? It seems so. We are only a few weeks into January and already veg events are popping up everywhere, and vegan celebs are making appearances, and debuts.

You’ve probably already heard about artist Ne-Yo going vegan for the new year. Now, vegan chefs are appearing on the Today Show with much more regularity; just last week Chef Chloe Coscerelli made allergy-free pasta and roasted veggies with Kathy Lee and Hoda, and Monday morning we watched Chef Ashley James whip up vegan quesadillas with Matt Lauer.
It’s not just food dominating the news, either. Recently launched UK search engine Style-Is  offers links to tons of different websites selling sustainable and ethical fashion; just type in “vegan” and over 200 products are available, including bags and accessories!  Looks like we’re off to a great start; here’s to 2013, the year of the vegans!
