My Meatless Life: LA

I guess it’s called kinetic energy. I feel like I was shot out of a cannon last week. It all happened so fast. I looked up and I was in LA. Yes Los Angeles, CA. Let me backtrack a little. It’s a place I’ve said I wanted to live for the last five years. I was waiting for everything to be perfect and in place; the money, the connections — all that stuff, but life is rarely perfect. This was no exception. Oddly enough, I don’t feel afraid of making the wrong decision. This is partially because I took a step into the unknown. I’m now the guy who does crazy shit. Achievement!

It’s only been one week so far and I have met tons of people. One in particular wanted a live-in chef for half the rent in a beautiful Hollywood hills home but he realized that vegan meant no meat (duh). A burnt out comedian who really wants to be roomies with me in a creepy way. All he talked about was his newly ex-wife. I’m not trying to counsel anyone. I have couch and AirBNB surfed.  It’s always fun to see who are your real friends. It’s usually two categories: the ones who say “of course you can crash with me” and the ones who say “I think you misunderstood me dude, I said you can come through for like a couple hours… not like stay here.” Thanks bro.

Yesterday I found an apartment I like and going to negotiate/flirt whatever it takes to get it! Don’t you judge me! Sometimes you have to use unorthodox methods to get what you need out here and who doesn’t like to be flirted with? Exactly. With all this movement, I have not had time to cook. I really have just been surviving on snacks, fruit and hummus.

Happy inauguration to my president and more recipes to come!

  1. Welcome to California Ayinde. Anytime you want to escape the LA area, you could take a short drive up the coast to Port Hueneme and join Gunter and me for a tempeh panini in our home. Once you get settled in and get a feel for the area you are more than welcome since our panini press is ready and waiting.
