So basically, I woke up with a painful monster the size of a marble on my chin on Wednesday. Thanks, hormones! Weren’t you supposed to leave me alone when I graduated from high school? Anyway, this called for some major DIY remedy research. Obviously, choosing a facial treatment as this weekend’s how-to was a no-brainer.
One of my favorite skincare lines is Yes To Cucumbers. Well, I was all out so I took the natural route.
The author of Reclaim Your Life, Carolyn Levett, indicates that cucumbers can serve as a functional toner for your skin. Cucumber juice can help both clear and prevent acne breakouts. By opening your pores, cucumber juice is able to remove dirt, make-up, oil and bacteria from your skin.
Of course, I went the extra mile to jazz things up. Every cucumber’s BFF, the tomato, is good for your skin as well. This fruit possesses high levels of Vitamins C and A, antioxidants and acidic content which deem the tomato useful when treating acne.
Before I went to bed, I used the toner that I’m about to share with you. To my disappointment, it didn’t instantly make my new little friend disappear. When I woke up and it was still there, I tried to remember that these remedies tend to take time and results are usually seen upon repetition.
Less than halfway into my day, I realized that my chin was no longer enduring an undesirable pain. The blemish almost completely minimized and reduced in redness. On a regular day, I would have called this a coincidence. But when it comes to my face, I happen to know a thing or two. Usually the cystic form of acne that I suffer from (yes, suffer – I’m not being a drama queen) takes over a week to diminish. I’m totally attributing this outcome to my new favorite all-natural and cruelty free homemade toner.
According to Healthguidance.org , it is typical to see results within one week when topical application of tomatoes to acne affected areas is done twice a day.
I figured if my cucumber-tomato treatment went well (which it did), I would test out that regimen too. Guess you’ll just have to keep up and find out!
In the meantime, here’s what you’ll need:
Materials: Food processor, tomato, cucumber, knife, storage container.
Don’t worry about the measurements. Try to keep a proportionate cucumber-to-tomato ratio and you can just save the rest in the fridge for up to 10 days.
1. Gather your materials
2. Cut the cucumber and tomato into chunks. Place in food processor and process until smooth and pulpy.
3. Pour mixture into storage container.
4. Pat, not rub, the mixture onto your face using your fingers (pulp and all!) Leave it on for five minutes. Take silly pictures and post on Instagram use #iEGstyle. Don’t forget to follow us @ieatgrassdotcom
Rinse well with warm water and pat dry with a clean towel.
Let us know how it worked for you! Have a great home remedy idea? Stumbled upon something you’re not so sure you want to attempt yourself? Let me know in a comment and it might just be posted on iEG next Saturday!
