Wellness Wednesday: DIY Vitamin Water

I know tons of people that are obsessed with drinking Vitamin Water. Hey, maybe you’re one of them! It’s colorful and appealing, it is supposedly super good for you, and it tastes pretty alright. Problem is, it’s actually just sugar water. Nothing healthy about it.

Glaceau Vitamin Water contains no juice. It looks like juice, but there actually isn’t any in it. When you look at the nutrition information, Vitamin Water contains 50 calories and 13 grams of sugar. That doesn’t sound like water to me! If you look closer, you’ll see that there are 2.5 servings in a single bottle of Vitamin Water. That means 125 calories and yeah… 33 grams of sugar. Basically, drinking a bottle of Vitamin Water is comparable to drinking a can of soda. The synthetic vitamins they add to the drink don’t cancel out all of that sugar!

If you’d like to stay away from all of that sugar but still want a tasty water treat, try making your own Vitamin Water! When you make your own, there are no added chemicals and no extra sugar! Also, it’s a great way to get family and friends who aren’t crazy about water to start drinking it!

My favorite DIY vitamin water is blackberry sage. Here’s how you do it!

Mix 10 cups of water, 1 cup of blackberries (slightly crushed) and 3-4 sage leaves. Leave it to chill over and then drink up in the morning! Simple!
