For the next 22 days, Jay-Z and Beyonce will be going vegan. Marco Borges, a good friend of Jay-Z’s and the founder of 22 Days Nutrition, turned Jay-Z onto a plant-based lifestyle a few months ago when he challenged Jay-Z to eat a “plant-based breakfast” every day. Jay-Z wrote on LifeandTimes.com, “It was surprisingly easier on me than I thought…”
Now, Jay-Z is embarking on a 22 day challenge to better health because psychologists say it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. “On the 22nd day,” Jay-Z wrote, “you’ve found the way.” Jay-Z began his challenge yesterday, December 3, because it was the day before his 44th birthday. (Happy B-day Jay-Z!) ” There’s something spiritual to me about it being my 44th birthday and the serendipity behind the number of days in this challenge,” he wrote. “22 (2+2=4) coupled with the fact that the challenge ends on Christmas day…It just feels right!”
Jay-Z casually added in the postscript, “B [Beyonce] is also joining me.” He didn’t say whether Blue Ivy would be accompanying her superstar parents on their plant-based journey, but most toddlers’ diets are generally vegan anyway. Bear Blu, Alicia Silverstone’s son has been raised entirely on an organic and vegan diet, so maybe he can give Blue Ivy some tips.
Jay-Z is calling the next 22 days a “spiritual and physical cleanse.” Although Jay-Z doesn’t know what will happen after the challenge ends, he’s keeping himself open to a semi-vegan or full plant-based diet. No matter what the result of the 22 day challenge, it’s awesome to see these two multi-talented people taking care of their personal health and increasing public awareness of plant-based lifestyles.
