iEG Crush: Nuttin Ordinary

There’s certainly nothing ordinary, but definitely something delicious, about Nuttin Ordinary’s raw, vegan cheese. Made with a winning combination of certified organic cashews, Himalayan salt, nutritional yeast, and a special probiotic blend, Nuttin Ordinary is free of dairy, preservatives, and, as the company proudly states, guilt.  One tablespoon only has 40 calories, which is reassuring since I couldn’t stop eating it.

This is the best cashew cheese spread I have ever tasted. I put it on crackers, pita chips, and even used it as a cream cheese alternative on a bagel. (I don’t even eat bagels regularly, but I made an exception for this cheese spread.) Nuttin Ordinary took my snacking game from normal to extraordinary.

Both the original and spicy flavors have an amazingly smooth texture. If you’ve ever tried to make nut-based cheese before, then you know how difficult it is to achieve a creamy consistency. Even the best food processor and valiant effort can’t match these pros on smoothness.

You can't get that kind of smoothness from just any vegan cheese spread.

The only thing I liked more than the texture was the taste. What I love about this spread is that it’s not trying too hard to imitate the taste of cheese, instead allowing the natural flavor of the cashews to take center stage. Of course, Nuttin Ordinary tastes cheesy, but, unlike other vegan cheeses and cheese spreads,  it doesn’t taste artificial.

If you want to enjoy this creamy spread with an extra kick, Nuttin Ordinary’s spicy flavor is perfect for you. The original cashew cheese is seasoned with a special hot peppers blend and radishes, making for a dynamic flavor profile.

I must caution, however, it is not for the faint of heart. Those with adventurous tastebuds, however, will be handsomely rewarded. I put this spicy cheese spread on pita chips and sweet potato tortilla chips. The combination of sweet, salt, and spice was almost addicting. (I did eventually stop myself from eating it, but it wasn’t easy. )

Right now, Nuttin Ordinary is only available at a few locations in New England, although they are beginning to expand. Soon enough, Nuttin Ordinary will be available in Burlington, VT, Hanover, NH, Lebanon, NH, Brooklyn, NY, New Haven, CT, and the place I’m most excited about: my own Boston, MA. If you’re lucky enough to live in one of these towns, be on the lookout for Nuttin Ordinary. If not, it’s time to start the campaign to get Nuttin Ordinary nationally distributed! I personally believe that vegans can never have enough vegan cheese alternatives, and Nuttin Ordinary is one of the best. So the next time you want to taste something extraordinary, I highly recommend some Nuttin Ordinary.
